New Years At The Sargents

2022

For the past three to four years our family has created memories on New Years night where we pray and ask God what our word is for the year. Once we hear the word, it gets put on a canvas and hung up in our home somewhere. Once the year is over we recap what the Lord said and how the word has come to life through the year. EVERY year the word stands true. It is really cool to see how God has impacted our lives through this one word. This is another way for the kids to see God's faithfulness and closeness to our lives and our living.

New Year's Eve we had an awesome dinner, combined some worship while we all took turns doing our recap, and then started on our canvases.

In my personal life coming into New Years, I felt like the word the Lord gave me was tied in a bow and complete literally as we came into the New Year. Over christmas break I was able to spend about 12 hours in the front seat of my car driving (I had 4 kids in the car but it was good!) which gave me time to think, pray, and listen to some really really good podcasts.( I will post the new one I found that I love below - she also has a really good one on New Years and also some resources for your family to do on New Years.) This was a really good time where the Lord bow tied up my year for my word Transformation by "deleting my trash" and showing me the firm foundations which I will stand on.

  • "Deleting The Trash" - The other day I accidentally deleted my trash on my computer where I had placed an entire month of children's curriculum and when I went to try to restore it, it would not come back. I tried apps and Googled it and everything else and could not get my computer to bring it back! With that said I had to recreate the entire month again. I feel like this is what the Lord wants to do in our life, whether it's the end of the year or not, there is a trash bin we save where we have gotten rid of some things and put them in the trash but we haven't taken it out, emptied it, discarded of it, never to be able to see it again or bring it back up. Take this new year as an opportunity to allow the Lord to empty your trash. Don't take 2021 trash into 2022.

  • Foundations on which I stand - Over the past 6 months the Lord has been strategic of throwing some things in my trash but also showing me a better way, showing me the ways in which He would like me to be, the values and boundaries He would like me to keep for the health of me and the ones around me. He has been pulling me in and speaking and speaking the same things. As I have embraced His words and maneuvered my heart and life to submit them, they have become foundations He has created in me that I know are solid and I can stand on. Although this year has had alot of life, fruit and joy, there have been some seriously painful moments when the maneuvering was happening lol. But God "transformed" me through it and created some solid things in me that are new.

So delete the trash and keep His words in your grasp!

Happy New Years to you and your family!
